As a special offer to our clients who love Ireland and have a keen interest in photography, Cross Country International has crafted the itinerary of its popular West Coast Walk for the June 7th to June 14th departure into a special photography workshop hosted by veteran guide Gerry Greensmyth and celebrated professional photographer Conor McKeown.
Conor, whose work has been published worldwide, will cover the art of best capturing the varied landscapes along the walk, lakes, hills, bogland and the famous Atlantic coastline, making the very best of lighting, the varied moods of the native Irish weather and composition. This is where Conor grew up, and he knows this land well, so you will be taken to his favorite places to discover great images.
You will hike and photograph the west of Ireland, considered by many to be the most Irish part of Ireland giving you some of the most spectacular scenery and beautiful towns. One of those special towns is Westport. Nestled under the shadow of Croagh Patrick, this is where St. Patrick spent forty days and nights in fasting. For his dedication, God is said to have vowed that the Irish would never lose their faith.
Next you will hike and shoot the legendary west coast islands. Where there are incredible sea birds, plants, ship wrecks, light houses and coastal views. This is where the famous pirate woman, Grace O'Malley, sailed. Grace was a patriot and fought the Tudors.
This hike is not all legends and battles, Westport is one of the few planned towns in Ireland and its design and layout are credited to James Wyatt the English architect most famous for his Neoclassical design for the London Pantheon. It is a beautiful place which few visitors wish to leave.
You will have an opportunity to hike nearby Connemara. As most lovers of Ireland know, Connemara is one of the most beautiful places on earth with its green hills, sheep pastures and the omnipresent sea; wonderful places for photographers realize "magic light".
Your accommodations are in downtown Westport at a lovely local hotel. You are conveniently located to some wonderful shopping. There are a number of pubs situated nearby where you can delight in some traditional Irish music.
