Hungary's Castle Walk
One of Hungary's most beautiful regions is Lillafüred, located in the eastern part of the Mountain Bükk, in a picturesque valley surrounded by three mountains. The Bükk mountain owes its balanced climate, to its lush beech forests and ideal location. It is a paradise throughout the year. The Bükk plateau, bordered by rocky crevices and the mountain with deep ravines and waterfalls is the romantic area of the Bükk National Park. Of the more than 300 known Bükk caves the Szeleta is especially well known, because the remains and the tools of the Bükk prehistoric man were found there. The beauty of the area is enhanced by vegetation that is divided into zones according to mountain height.
The Northern Mountains are the most forested regions in Hungary. The connected oak, and beech-forests of Bükk and Zemplén Mountains are varied with wonderful pinewoods. There are nearly 1000 animal breeds and 1600 flowered plants recorded in the national park, out of which 400 are on a doubly-protected area like the fritillary arythronium.
